A Sunset View of Yueyang on the Way to the Parrot Island—To a Friend  Climbing Lord Wu's Terrace in Autumn for a Distant View  Seeing a Monk Off

A Sunset View of Yueyang on the Way to the Parrot Island—To a Friend

No waves nor mist near

the Parrot Island.

Here in the land of Chu,

I am especially reminded of you.

Birds fly over Hankou obliquely

under the slanting sun.

The sky merges in distance with the

autumn water in Lake Tungting.

Below the ridges, the sound

of bulge from Yueyang is chilly clear.

A lonely soldier watching at the riverside,

as I moor my boat at night.

Out of his concern for the House of Han,

Jiar Yi submitted his royal plea.

His banishment to Changsha

has since saddened many hearts.

Climbing Lord Wu's Terrace in Autumn for a Distant View

On this ancient terrace,

desolated and deteriorated,

I stand on an autumn day

with a homesick heart.

In the wilds, the temple

has attracted few visitors.

The peaks, across the stream,

are deep in the clouds.

The setting sun

lingers on the ancient rampart.

The bare forest is filled

with the sound of qing.

It saddens me to recount things

of the Southern Dynasties.

Only the Long River

still flows as ever.

Seeing a Monk Off

The Bamboo Grove Temple is

deep in the woods,

From afar the sound

of late bell drifts down.

With a bamboo hat on your shoulder

and slanting beams your back,

you are going back alone

to the distant blue mountain.
